Around 1,000 protesters arrived at Blackheath common in south London yesterday for the start of the fourth annual week-long Climate Camp.
- Hundreds of peace activists converged on Downing Street yesterday to protest Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s meeting with Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu. They demanded an end to Israel’s construction of illegal settlements in the West Bank, the “ethnic cleansing” of east Jerusalem and its ongoing siege of Gaza.
- Workers for a tool maker in Chicago took to the street outside their plant on Tuesday to protest a unilateral health insurance cut by their employer.
- Almost 20,000 Air India employees staged a nationwide protest and three-day hunger strike this week against the airline’s proposed move to cut 50% of the productivity-linked incentive.
- Dozens of South Miami police officers gathered at City Hall on Tuesday to protest a 7.5 percent pay cut proposed by the administration.
- At least 13,000 workers at South Africa’s Impala Platinum went on strike Monday to protest an agreement between the company and union leaders to raise wages by 10 percent.
