- Thousands of Japanese gathered in sweltering heat on the southern island of Okinawa on Sunday to demand that a US Marine base be moved out of the region, days ahead of a visit by US President Barack Obama.
- To mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall yesterday, a group of masked activists in the West Bank used a lorry to pull down segments of Israel’s cement seperation wall before Israeli security forces confronted them with tear gas grenades.
- Tens of thousands of angry demonstrators rallied across Ireland on Friday to protest government plans for tough austerity measures.
