Let me say, though, Jim, that as someone who has seen pro-gun activists (who carry concealed handguns 24/7) use King’s quotes (excerpted and without context) to further their agenda, I can sympathize.

I enjoyed this article but I wish it would have included more quotes/thoughts from Dr. King about Israel (during his lifetime). The Vietnam analogies are interesting, but that former piece is conspicuously absent.

Well said, Jim!!!!! Thank you so much for the clear examples of Zionists taking a great peacemaker’s words and twisting them to justify their own cruelty. I am so proud of you for saying the Zionist word out loud and I agree, MLK may not have become anti-Israel, but most likely he would cut to the chase and call a Zionist a Zionist.

I hope that more in America will discover that Zionism does not equate to anti-Semitism. Then perhaps the next time I visit Iran and give an interview, I won’t have to hang my head in shame and answer through tears “I don’t know why the U.S. did not investigate Rachel Corrie’s death at the hands of an Israeli soldier driving a Catapillar bulldozer made in the U.S.A.”

Jim, I hope your essay reaches multitudes on this day of rememberance and that many thoughts are provoked.
