And the Oscar goes to…

    Street artist Ramiro Gomez pays homage to the domestic workers who really make movie magic happen.

    While you’re watching the Oscars tonight, oohing and ahhing at the pretty dresses and grimacing at the uncomfortable jokes, let’s all take a minute to remember the people who really make movie magic happen: the domestic workers who take care of the homes and children of celebrities, allowing them the free time to make their movies.

    Street artist Ramiro Gomez has erected three cardboard cutouts on the Beverly Hills-West Hollywood border of an Oscar statue, a housekeeper and a gardener to, as he told Colorlines, “honor those who will not be thanked during the award’s acceptance speeches.”

    So as celebrities return to their well-manicured homes and sleeping children who’ve been tucked away in bed by nannies tonight, let’s hope that they, too, recognize the value of these overlooked people.
