Classroom guide
Here are some ideas for ways teachers and professors can use Waging Nonviolence in the classroom:
- Add Waging Nonviolence to your syllabus and advise students to check the site frequently. There are many jumping off points for classroom discussion and/or paper topics.
- Encourage students to comment on articles as a way to practice critical thinking and writing.
- Assign students to compare our analysis of a major current event, such as the coup in Honduras or the protests in Iran, to the mainstream coverage.
- Make use of our Categories, which provide a focused breakdown of issues and topics facing both the world and the nonviolence community. For instance, if you are teaching about labor, click on the labor category and read through our posts on that subject to get a sense of the current situation.
- Have students send us their questions or comments. We will be happy to answer and point them toward further reading.
