Myanmar newspapers go black to protest journalist detentions

Several newspapers in Myanmar protested the alleged harassment of journalists by police at a recent demonstration, a representative said Tuesday.

The Myanmar Post ran a blacked-out box instead of its front page photo on its Monday edition.

Ten more publications were planning to boycott government press events, and leave blank the space normally dedicated to that content, said Myint Kyaw, an official of the Myanmar Journalists’ Network.

Some newspapers were planning blank or blacked-out front pages later this week, he said.
