Undocumented youth walk across the border, call out Obama

“Bring them home!”
“Let them go!”
“Undocumented! Unafraid!”

These were some of the chants punctuating the speeches given by activists at the border near Nogales, Arizona today, where the DREAM 8, a group of undocumented youth, attempted to come home and cross the border from Mexico back into the US.

The DREAM 8 are: Claudia Amaro, Adriana Gil Diaz, Luis Leon, Maria Peniche, Ceferino Santiago, Lulu Martinez, Marco Saavedra, and Lizbeth Mateo. For all of these young people, Mexico, (whether Monterrey, Mexico City, Veracruz or Oaxaca) is not home. Some within this group of young people left the US ‘voluntarily’ because they either had dreams of attaining higher education or not living in fear of a police state, while others were deported or were forced to return for health care.

Today, these young people attempted to come back to the only place they’ve ever known as home.
