What appears on Waging Nonviolence is there to be shared. We need your help to make sure our stories of struggles for justice and peace spread as widely as possible, and republication is an important strategy for doing so. Unless otherwise noted, all content on the site falls under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

To republish WNV content, click on the CC button at the top of the story you want to republish and follow the instructions. We are utilizing an open source technology developed by Matomo, which allows us to know how much traffic stories receive off of our site. It inserts a small image beacon, or pixel, in the story that simply counts the number of page views to the story on which the code appears.

Being able to have an accurate sense of the size of the audience that our stories reach is important information, particularly when we approach funders who are always looking for ways to measure impact. This is simply an efficient way of getting basic pageview statistics quickly. We see it as a small ask from republishers for using our content free of charge.

Users will not see the pixel and it will not affect your page layout in any way. The pixel will not ever slow or break any of your web pages. It should not violate any privacy policy, because it doesn’t track anything at all about visitors — neither individually nor in the aggregate — nor does it attempt to set or read any cookies. It also doesn’t count anything on pages other than the one on which you loaded it. We will hold the pageview data Matomo collects as confidential, and we will not share it with outsiders.

In addition to using the text from the CC button, we also require attribution — a note at the top of the article that says it originally appeared here, and a link back to the original page where it appeared on the site. For example, at the top of a republished article, a sentence like this should be included:

This article was originally published on Waging Nonviolence.
